  • Professor Masatake Haruta* received Thomson Reuters Citation Laureate (making him a strong candidate for a Nobel Prize) from Thomson Reuters (New York, USA) for independent foundational discoveries of catalysis by gold. (*Professor of applied chemistry; his research interests include gold nanoparticles and catalytic chemistry.) Thomson Reuters Citation Laureates are selected from among the top 0.1% of researchers in chemistry, physics, medicine/physiology, and economics who are regarded as leaders in noteworthy research fields on the basis of the number of their academic papers cited by other researchers in the last two or more decades. There is a strong relationship between the number of cited academic papers and the evaluation of Nobel laureates. Hence, recipients of the Thomson Reuters Citation Award are considered strong candidates for a Nobel Prize.
