Faculty of Urban Environmental Sciences, Tokyo Metropolitan University
Department of Geography
Students in this department conduct wide-ranging investigation, analysis, and research on the global environment to consider the human–environment interrelation. Five laboratories have been established, and emphasis is placed on fieldwork. The department is unique in Japan for allowing students to learn various types of geography, including using geographic information systems.
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
Students in this department study the three fields of social infrastructure, safety and disaster prevention, and environmental systems that lay the foundation for economic development. Due to global warming and worsening natural disasters, the need for infrastructure improvement that can adapt to those issues is rising worldwide. Students acquire advanced expertise and develop into international, highly skilled human resources who can succeed at international organizations and global companies.
Department of Applied Chemistry for Environment
Students in this department will find education and research opportunities to study applied chemistry that can be used in the field of chemistry, based on diverse chemical fields. Through SDGs-related education and research, the department fosters researchers and chemists who can create molecules and materials for a wide variety of fields including the environment, energy, and biotechnology.
Department of Tourism Science
The goal of this department is to elucidate tourism from the viewpoint of science based on scientific fields such as engineering and physical science. The department strives to promote the conservation of the local environment and culture on which tourism is based, as well as proper use of resources; to promote community development such as improving appeal, value, and the economy; and to conduct education and research for students to acquire comprehensive skills and expertise.

Scholarship
Global Futures Scholarship
Selection (T‑GLIPs Type I) will be based on:
- SAT Reasoning Test or ACT (with the optional Writing Test), International Baccalaureate (IB), or other qualifications (e.g., the National Certificate of Secondary Education)
- External English proficiency test scores
- An essay
- An online interview
*Online essay writing is required for applicants to the Department of Geography
